Ductile iron Recessed Covers and Frames are municipal infrastructure components cast from ductile iron. Their core structural feature is that the cover panel can be embedded into the frame groove, allowing the cover surface to be flush with surrounding pavement materials (such as asphalt, concrete, and stone). After nodularization treatment, ductile iron has a tensile strength of ≥420MPa and a yield strength of ≥300MPa, which can meet the full range of load-bearing requirements from A15 to F900 in the EN 124 standard. FAQ

Q: 1.What causes settlement or abnormal noise of recessed covers after installation?

A: There are three main causes: ①Uncompacted foundation pit or insufficient concrete strength leading to base settlement; ②Elevation calibration error of frame installation (exceeding ±2mm), forming height difference with surrounding pavement; ③Excessive bite gap between cover and frame, or aging/falling off of sealing ring. Solutions include reinforcing the base, recalibrating elevation, and replacing sealing parts.

Q: 2.What is the service life of such covers, and how often is routine maintenance required?

A: Under standard installation and normal environment, the service life of ductile iron recessed covers can reach 30-50 years; in coastal high-corrosion environments, the service life is not less than 20 years after anti-corrosion treatment such as hot-dip galvanizing. Routine maintenance recommendations: inspect locking/sealing devices quarterly, re-measure elevation and stability annually, and evaluate anti-corrosion layer condition every 3-5 years.

Q: 3.How to match the recess depth of recessed covers with surrounding pavement materials?

A: The recess depth must be consistent with the pavement thickness: ①50-60mm for asphalt pavement; ②60-70mm for stone/brick pavement; ③50-80mm for concrete pavement. A 5-10mm margin can be reserved during customization to ensure flushness with the road surface after paving.

Q: 4.Do the products have anti-theft and anti-fall functions? Can relevant accessories be added?

A: Standard products have a precision interlocking structure to prevent displacement, and two types of accessories can be added: ①Anti-theft locking devices (mechanical locks/smart electronic locks) to prevent cover theft; ②Anti-fall nets/brackets (load-bearing ≥1000kg) to avoid personnel falling. Accessories can be integrated into the product as needed.

Q: 5.Can non-standard sizes or special-shaped recessed covers be customized?

A: Customization is supported. The regular customizable range includes: ①Circular diameter 500-1200mm, square/rectangular side length 400-1000mm; ②Special shapes (elliptical/irregular) can be produced according to drawings, but the customization cycle is 7-15 days longer than standard models, and small-batch customization will incur certain mold costs
